"SULGRAVE MANOR: 
GEORGE WASHINGTON'S ANCESTRAL HOME AND HIS FOREFATHERS",  
an ENACTMENT October 17, 1999, at the Washington HQs Museum site in Morristown, NJ - as 
Lawrence Washington,  born 1500 a.d., purchaser of SULGRAVE MANOR.

That Lawrence of "Henry VIII" circa, purchased the outlawed monastery property  in the year 1539.  He was the great-great grandfather of George Washington's great grandfather - Col. John Washington - who arrived and shipwrecked in Virginia in 1656.   

Martin Sirot-Smith's presentation was terrific!  He told of connections with the Spencer family (Princess Diana's family).  We now appreciate that George Washington was not pinned with an old family last name : Hertburn (pronounced "Heartburn") or later Wessyngton.   

How does this sound?  "President George Heartburn"!

The nearest Railway station at Banbury is 7 miles SW of Sulgrave.   

DIRECTIONS: The small town of Sulgrave is central, in Northamptonshire about 70 miles from each sea.  It is about 70 miles from London via M1 and M40 highways.  The Manor is just off the (Banbury to Northhampton) B4525 road just 7 miles NE of the JUNCTION 11 of highway M40.

Allow about 1-1/4 hours for your indoor tour. 

Admission for adults is about 3.75 pounds (4.50 for a special event).  Children ages 5-16 admission is about  2 pounds (2.25 pounds for a special event).

CLOSED : December 25, 26 and 31 and ALL OF JANUARY and Wednesdays.  Also closed from 12pm - 1pm.  Closed during FEBRUARY for all except pre-booked school and other groups.

ARRIVAL HOURS for WEEKDAYS - April thru October, (except closed Wednesdays), are generally - 2:00 pm  - 4:30 pm.

ARRIVAL HOURS for WEEKENDS, Bank Holidays and the months of APRIL thru OCTOBER weekends, begin at 10:30 am and allow arrival hours until 4:30pm (but closed from 1 - 2pm).   

ARRIVAL HOURS for MARCH, NOVEMBER, and the first part of DECEMBER and December 27 thru December 30 are generally - 10:30 am  - 3:30 pm (but closed from 1 - 2pm).
